Malayer is a small town in the western part of Iran, 90 km southwest of Hamadan and 400 km south-east of Tehran. This, like the nearby Nahavand, is a well-known center of nomad rugs. In rugs Herat's image is used. This is an old Mongol motif-diamond inside a flower and outside with twisted leaves. There are different red shades of colour. The motifs in the center of the carpet are similar to the edges. Wool is soft and silky.
