What Determines A Good Silk Carpet?
The knot density is one of the most important criteria of quality. The quality of silk, the workmanship, the harmony of colours and the balance of the pattern are also important factors to determine the quality of an authentic silk carpet.
Cleaning and stain removal
In order to prolong the life of a silk carpet we advise to put a rubber mat under it. The underlay prevents the carpet from slipping. We recommend regular vacuum cleaning, stains can be removed with a mild detergent, a dash of vinegar and lukewarm water, dabbed with soft cloth.
When the carpet is not used, it should be rolled against the direction of the nap and stored in a dry place. The rug should never be kept in a plastic bag.
It is advisable to shift the direction of the rug depending on the traffic once or twice a year to keep the pile in a good condition.
Chinese silk carpets are increasing in value due to the shortage of weavers. Carpet weaving is a very precise form of art, younger generation does not find it attractive and profitable to be involved in this long term process.
