Ghashghai nomads are located near the city of Shiraz, they are the second largest turkish community in Iran. They graze their sheeps for the winter to the Gulf of Persia and, and for the summer to the Zagros Mountains, where weather is cooler.
Weaving of rugs, bags, belts and other decorative items is a contribution of women, these handicrafts are sold on the Shiraz markets.
These tribal hand knotted rugs have a typical red-brown background. Patterns are knitted by memory, often a medallion in the middle of the carpet and its replicas in all four corners. People, animals, birds, trees and flowers are also common symbolism.
Properly knotted Ghashghai carpet is a durable and attention-grab art work that tells a lot about the lives of nomads.
